FAQ’s
Q: How much does Operation MissionLIFE cost?
A: LIFE believes that financial concern should never keep any student from being equipped to serve the Lord. Therefore, LIFE finances Operation MissionLife by working together with students to solicit family, friends, and others for the funds necessary to cover program expenses. There are many Adventist church members who share LIFE’s vision of finishing the gospel work at home and abroad and are willing to sponsor students who share the same passion. For students who choose not to receive sponsorship and wish to finance themselves the cost of Operation MissionLIFE is $4375.00 for each phase.
Q: What is covered in the cost?
A: The cost covers everything a student needs to learn and serve during Operation MissionLIFE. Tuition, housing, international ticket fare, and all classroom and ministry materials are included in the cost. In addition to this, LIFE gives a monthly stipend of $350 during phase one, and $250 during phase two to cover local travel, food and various other needed expenses.
Q: When does the next Operation MissionLife begin?
A: Phase one begins August 4, 2008 and runs through Dec. 20, 2008. Phase two begins Jan. 4, 2009 and goes through May, 2009.
Q: Where is the international destination for the next Operation MissionLife?
A: Thailand will be the international destination for Operation MissionLIFE 2009.
Q: How old do I have to be to join Operation MissionLife?
A: For phase one, LIFE requires students to be at least 18 years old and to have finished 12th grade or hold an equivalent GED. Students who wish to participate in the entire 10 month program must be at least 18 years of age and out of high school for a minimum of one year.
Q: Why does OperationLIFE have two phases?
A: LIFE desires to equip it’s students with the all the skills necessary for soul-winning both in a Western (secular) and cross-cultural context. Even in North America the need is great for experienced Bible workers who know how to share the gospel across cultural bounds. It is our conviction that students who know how to disciple others both at home and abroad are the most well equipped for God to use wherever He needs them.
Q: Do I have to go overseas once phase one is completed?
A: Although Operation MissionLIFE is designed as a complete 10 month training and service program, students can opt out of phase two if they so choose. Many Seventh-day Adventist churches and institutions in North America have a need for experienced Bible workers and are interested in employing LIFE students who have successfully completed phase one.
Q: What exactly will I be doing in Thailand during phase two?
A: During phase two students are involved in various outreach activities including health ministry, public evangelism, and discipling others in a small group setting. During this time LIFE students join together with local Bible workers for the purpose of establishing new work in unentered areas. The primary focus of the student missionary is to help begin new work and generate Bible study interests for the local Bible workers to follow up.
Q: Will I serve in an area by myself during phase two?
A: No. Jesus was very clear that the best method of doing missionary work is two by two. Student missionaries will serve in two’s (same gender) and will also be joined by at least one local Bible worker for translation and ministry purposes.
Q: I am concerned about traveling overseas. Is it really safe?
A: There are many countries of the world that are still very open to the gospel and allow Christians to freely share their faith. LIFE chooses to work in these countries along side of local Seventh-day Adventists who desire to establish new work and expand the borders of God’s kingdom.
Q: I am a University student. Why should I take a year out of school and become a part of Operation MissionLIFE?
A: There are billions of people around the world who need to know Jesus Christ in a personal way. They are longing for more than this life has to offer. Many are looking for true peace which only comes through a relationship with Jesus. You have something they desperately need. Through your energy, creativity, and faithfulness you will bring salvation to many and have the opportunity to literally change the course of history. Not only will this year out from school change the world, it will change you. It is for this reason we ask you to prayerfully consider joining Operation MissionLIFE for a truly life-changing experience.
